Vita al Capo

If you want to experience La Dolce Vita in Cape Town, you actually can

In the last 10-15 years, the city has been chosen by quite a few Italians who decided to settle down here and create their new life at the end of Africa.

Check this page periodically, where we will introduce you to some of the Italian members of the local community who are adding some real authenticity to the Mother City.

Join us on the Italian Walking Tour on a Saturday morning.
Meet members of the local Italian community personally and interview them in Italian or in English.

This month I would like to introduce you firstly to the new Italian Consul of Italy in Cape Town, Alfonso Tagliaferri who was appointed as Consul in May 2015  and secondly to a few Italians from my home town Verona, who also have been living in the Mother City for a while.

Here are my concittadini – fellow citizens:

Meet La famiglia Ciman who used to have the popular restaurant La Masseria in Stellenbosch. The daughter Cristina is now in charge of the Bottega Deli at the Italian Club in Milnerton which sells the best Italian sausage ever.

If you visit Cristina, ask her to give you the recipe of the famous “risotto alla salsiccia” which is still my number one Italian dish.

Francesca Donadello

I would like you to meet my other Veronese fellow Francesca Donatello who has just moved to Cape Town.

Professionally she works as psychologist and psychotherapist but she has a passion for fashion and has started making jewelry with paper as a hobby. Francesca created her own collection called Dona P laces.

If you meet Francesca, ask her about the “City of Love”.

Massimo del Corso

The smiley and friendly Massimo del Corso, is the founder of Anima Tours and is a very knowledgeable tour guide who loves taking Italians and South Africans around the Western Cape.

If you meet him Massimo ask him how to get a good seat at the “Arena di Verona” during the Opera season.

Micaela Assirelli

The last Veronese I would like to introduce you to is Micaela Assirelli from Assirelli Italian Design in Salt River, a company specialized on kitchen design for the past 32 years.

If you meet Micaela, ask her to give you the recipe of the famous Italian dessert Tiramisu. She must know it since her mom is a chef!

This is a pretty and singular town; it lies at the foot of an enormous wall, which reaches into the clounds, and makes a most imposing barrier. Cape Town is a great inn, on the great highway to the east.
